Ausgestiegener Nizzolo schrie Walscheid den Berg hoch

06.09.2020 | (rsn) - Max Walscheid (NTT) hat bei seinem Tour-Debüt die erste Pyrenäen-Etappe gemeistert. Der 1,99 Meter große und über 90 Kilogramm schwere Sprinter schaffte es mit dem Grupetto ins Ziel - vielleicht auch deshalb, weil ihn sein zuvor vom Rad gestiegener Kapitän Giacomo Nizzolo aus dem Begleitwagen heraus anfeuerte. "Giacomo, du bist nicht nur ein großartiger Fahrer und Teamkollege, sondern auch ein echter Freund", schrieb Walscheid auf Instagram. "Du bist ein echter Champion, wie du mich, nachdem du aufgeben musstest, aus dem Teamfahrzeug heraus den Berg hochgeschrien hast", so 27-Jährige, der zu Beginn des ersten Anstieges durch einen Defekt gestoptt worden ware und nach einem Radwechsel bergauf eine Aufholjagd starten musste.

Giacomo, you are not only a great bike rider and teammate, but also a true friend. Thank you for keeping spirits high and giving me strength for today’s stage. I am very sad to see you being forced to leave the tour. But what a champion you are, to scream me up the climb after abandoning the race. Such a bad moment for you and still you focus on supporting me. Hats off. About my race: Today’s scenario with a breakaway taking easily minute after minute before we hit the climbs was worst possible for a later to be grupetto. On top of this I had a mechanical in the bottom of the 1st climb and needed to change bikes. I started chasing pretty far behind the bunch and am just glad, I could come back. One very hard day ticked off, one more and it’s rest day. Look very closely on this picture: that’s in the first climb. The bunch in front and in the top right there’s a blue dot chasing, that’s me.
